A finish – True North Quilt

I’m so happy to be writing this post… It’s finished! A quick check on Instagram tells me that I started this quilt 39 weeks ago! But every quilt needs a deadline and this one is for my step-dad who has his birthday is soon.

quilts on pool fences should totally be a thing; just ignore the messy garden, hey?

I have fond childhood memories of afternoons of him taking us out on his boat, so when I saw Sweetwater’s The Boat House collection, I thought of him. The pattern is True North by Peta of She Quilts a Lot.

There are 12 blocks here which make a pretty big quilt (officially, it’s a twin size). I reversed Peta’s colours and used a dark background and light frames. It’s quilted with my favourite quick-quilt option of the 3-stitch zig zag through the centre of the blocks and the frames, and I added a few straight lines through the blocks themselves. I do wish I had had the time and shoulders to FMQ it though. I backed it with IKEA nummer fabric with an extra strip of blue to break it up a little. So many people commented on the backing while I hauled it around with me finishing the binding.

And in the grand tradition of a quilter, I’ve finished one thing and started another… At least one got finished! Here’s a sneak peak:

Ain’t he cute? Have a lovely weekend. x
